president Joe Biden said the unidentified flying objects shot down in US airspace were most likely not linked to China’s spy balloon program.

At a White House press briefing, Biden provided an update on the mysterious objects spotted over Alaska, Canada and Lake Huron.

“Last week, immediately after the incursion of China’s high-altitude balloon, our military took a close look at our airspace and upgraded our radar to detect more slow-moving objects,” the president said.

The increased scrutiny meant that more objects than usual were discovered over the weekend. “I want to be clear — we have no evidence that the number of objects in the sky suddenly increased,” Biden said.

Biden said US and Canadian militaries are currently working on it Recover debris from the objects, but there is currently no evidence linking them to the Chinese spy balloon that was shot down off the coast of South Carolina.

“The three objects are most likely balloons tied to private corporations, recreation or research facilities that study the weather or conduct other scientific research,” Biden said.

However, the president said he would direct his staff and National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan to develop “tighter rules” for handling such objects in the future.

These rules will be communicated to Congress but will not be made available to the public.

The President also addressed the rising tensions with China over the spy balloon incident. “We are looking for competition, not conflict with China. We are not looking for a new Cold War.”

However, he also said, “I don’t apologize for shooting down that balloon,” which the military believes was trying to spy on Hawaii and Guam before going off course.

He also promised to shoot down any other balloons sent into American airspace. “Make no mistake, if any object poses a threat to the safety of the American people, I will dismantle it”
