Welcome back Bey.
beyonce has released her new single early Monday and it’s safe to say that “Break My Soul” did its part in breaking the internet.
With its house music vibe, the dance track marked the return that Bey Hive (as her devout fanbase is known) was more than ready for.
“You Won’t Break My Soul” Beyonce sings in the chorus with lyrics that make it clear that she is fully aware of her power.
“Imma let down my hair/’Cause I lost my mind,” she sings. “Bey’s back and I sleep really well at night / The queens in the front and the doms in the back / I don’t take movies but the whole gang’s cracked up.”
It also reunites Queen Bey with bounce music legend Big Freedia, who appeared on Beyoncé’s 2016 hit “Formation.”
“It feels surreal to once again be on the track with Queen Beyonce.” Big Freedia tweeted. “I am so honored to be (a part of) this special moment that I am forever grateful Lord. Please someone catch me.”
The superstar announced on Monday that the song would be released at midnight, but made a surprise early drop on Tidal, her husband, rapper Jay-Z’s streaming service.
“Break My Soul” is the first single out her forthcoming “Renaissance” album to be released on July 29th.
In 2020, Beyoncé released the single “Black Parade” in honor of Junteenth.
The Grammy-winner’s final visual album, Black Is King, was released the same year as a companion project to her curated album The Lion King: The Gift. She voiced the character of Nala in Disney’s 2019 remake of The Lion King.
Her last full-length album was Lemonade in 2016.
