BEVERLY, MASS. (WHDH) — A Beverly-based search and rescue task force has traveled to Florida to help with recovery efforts after Hurricane Ian left much of the state in tatters.
Members of Massachusetts Search and Rescue Task Force 1 from across New England were given four hours to assemble in Beverly after receiving orders from FEMA at 8:30 p.m. Friday to travel to Orlando, Fla. for assistance in response to the devastation Ian had left in his wake.
“Our orders are to respond to Orlando and get there as soon as possible,” said Jay Moltenbrey, deputy program manager for Massachusetts Task Force 1. “We’re going through the night.”
Moltenbrey said that upon arrival, the task force is ready to do anything to help Floridians recover from Ian
“Our mission is to advance into a devastated area,” Moltenbrey said. “In the trucks that are here on site, we transport enough tents, water and food.”
