Beto O’Rourke interrupts Texas Gov. Abbott’s remarks at school

Beto O’Rourke, a Democratic nominee for Texas governor, interrupted Gov. Greg Abbott’s Tuesday school shooting press conference and yelled that the tragedy was “perfectly predictable” and that the governor was “not doing anything.”
O’Rourke approached the stage as Abbott covered Tuesday’s shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, which killed 19 children and two teachers.
“It’s time for the next shooting and you don’t do anything,” O’Rourke yelled. The Democrat was shouted down by several Texas officials on stage with the Republican governor, one calling him a “sick son of a B–“.
O’Rourke, who has been vocal in support of gun control, was escorted out of the press conference by police. Outside he spoke to reporters,
“We owe these parents actions. I’ve spoken to parents in El Paso, I’ve spoken to parents at Santa Fe High School, I’ve spoken to parents in Midland Odessa,” O’Rourke said, referring to other horrific school shootings in recent years years.
“They want us to do something immediately. I want us to do something now. We can do something immediately. But if we continue to accept that, it’s not just the governor’s fault, it’s our fault,” he said.
O’Rourke, who ran for US President in 2020, now wants to unseat Abbott as governor of Texas in November.
In his update on Tuesday’s shooting at Robb Elementary School, Abbott shared that the gunman had warned he was going to shoot the school dead on social media.
Salvador Ramos, 18, made three posts on social media in the half hour before he opened fire on the elementary school.
According to the governor, Ramos first posted that he plans to shoot his grandmother, then that he shot the woman and finally that he was about to shoot an elementary school.
Ramos used an AR-15 style semi-automatic rifle in Tuesday’s bloodbath. He had legally bought two guns two days before the attack, shortly after his 18th birthday.
In addition to the 19 children killed and two teachers, 17 others were injured in the attack.
‘Evil befell Uvalde yesterday. Anyone who shoots their grandmother in the face must have evil in their hearts,” Abbott said during the televised news conference. “But it’s much worse when someone shoots little children. It is intolerable and unacceptable for us to have someone in the state who would kill young children in our schools.’
