Former F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone was arrested in Brazil on Wednesday night for illegally carrying a gun at an airport.

The 91-year-old was traveling to Switzerland on a private jet from Sao Paulo’s Viracopos International Airport when he was arrested by Brazilian authorities.

It is understood that the security X-ray discovered a 32-calibre LW Seecamp pistol in a shirt pocket that was in Ecclestone’s luggage.

Ecclestone reportedly admitted to Brazilian police that he had the gun but was unaware it was in his suitcase.

He was then released by authorities after posting bail of R$6,060 (£900).
