Bernalillo County ransomware attack affects brokerages, housing market

Gilbert said the ransomware attack that hit Bernalillo County also affected her revenue.

“We closed and one of my realtors came in and asked if we had ever seen this happen before, and it was a special affidavit that spoke of the fact that they could not. recorded it, and then, naturally, we heard about Gilbert speaking.

Since the county cannot record money transfers, this means extra steps must be taken for both buyers and sellers. They even had to purchase “vulnerability” insurance to cover any delays caused by the attack.

“Two things need to happen – there are some affidavits being completed by the buyer and seller telling them what their situation and responsibilities are, and the lender needs to accept that they will finance without need the deed until a later date,” said Gilbert.

The ‘next day’ has finally come. The county announced Friday night that key departments and offices, such as the County Clerk’s Office, were back online after days of darkness.

“I really feel sorry for the county right now with everything that’s going on, but at some point they’re going to have to document everything that’s been going on over the past few days,” Gilbert said.

Tom Thorpe, a spokesman for the county, shared the following statement with KOB 4:

“The secretary’s office has been fully restored. Online forms and services are available. And the backlog will be cleared before new applications are added.”

Thorpe added that the secretariat’s office will begin working on that backlog later this week and it hopes to have it resolved early next week.

Now that the county can record important documents, brokers like Gilbert can breathe a sigh of relief.

“I’m really pleased because initially we were ready and we haven’t talked to anyone who has let this happen to them. I just think the initial panic was ‘oh my god, did you hear what happened?’ and ‘what shall we do?’ and ‘have you seen this?’ so once we got over that. Gilbert said.

The following Bernalillo County offices have reopened:

  • Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC)
  • Probate Court
  • Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office
  • Behavioral health
  • Planning and Development Services (PDS)
  • Treasurer’s Office
  • Amusement Park and Open Space
  • Animal care service
  • The state of emergency and public safety is fully operational
