Beautiful Florida Panther kittens giving hope for the future

State scientists are reporting great news about the critically endangered Florida panther.

Vets say they’ve visited a litter of three panther kittens again and appear to be fine.

Just finding the litter was an amazing feat. One vet said it was “like looking for a needle in a haystack. They camouflage themselves so well, flatten themselves out in the undergrowth, remain silent until you’re right next to them, then they hiss.”

The kittens, who are between five and six weeks old, were assessed for weight gain and loss and for the correct fit of their tracking collars.

The FWC says kitten survival estimates are low, so they hope the radio-tracking collars will help change that.

The collars eventually fall off as the big cats get older.
