Deputies arrived at the apartment complex around 9 p.m. and had contact with the victim. However, as they were talking, the suspect arrived at the scene.
The suspect quickly fled on foot, sparking a chase and a scuffle as MPs attempted to arrest the suspect. At least one of the deputies fired a shot during the melee, with one of the shots killing the suspect who is presumed dead at the scene.
Victims and deputies were examined and evaluated by medical staff. There was no word on what their injuries were.
The deputies involved in the case will be interviewed and have been placed on administrative leave. Camera footage of the incident will be reviewed and further details will be announced soon.
The investigation is being conducted by the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office.
