BBL 2023: Matt Kelly’s injury video, David Moody two no-balls video

Fast bowler Matt Kelly is under surveillance by the Scorchers after a freak accident forced him off the field.

The Perth Scorchers host the Sydney Sixers in Saturday’s qualifiers at Optus Stadium, regardless of the results of the remaining BBL games.

Cameron Bancroft’s impressive 95-run unbeaten run, which he hit with just 50 balls, set the Scorchers up for a 10-run win over the Melbourne Renegades in Perth on Sunday.

Some late exploits from Aaron Finch in his 100th BBL appearance gave the Renegades a glimpse of an unlikely victory after they looked like they had been completely outplayed. The Australia captain finished on 76 carries from 35 balls, unnerving the Perth crowd.

Shaun Marsh also came back from his recent hamstring problem to open batting, bringing up a hasty 54 runs.

They went 5-202 in response to the Scorchers first-inning score of 5-212.

Perth’s 11th win in 14 games guarantees them top spot in the table and a great shot at clinching their fifth BBL title.

Despite the loss, the Renegades remain in contention for a top five spot. But with four qualifiers remaining, it’s still difficult to predict with certainty who will take places 3-7 at the final table.

You’d think they’d have to beat the Adelaide Strikers in Melbourne on Tuesday to continue in the tournament.

EYES ON KELLY

The Scorchers will oversee fast bowler Matt Kelly ahead of next weekend after he was hauled out of the game during the Renegades’ innings due to the concussion rule.

He was hit flush in the face by the ball thrown in from the outfield, which appeared to bounce off Finch’s racquet.

The referee quickly called for help and Kelly was replaced by spinner Peter Hatzoglou, who completed the over.

A PASSIONATE START

four balls.

That was all it took for Melbourne Renegades paceman David Moody to be relegated from attack as a comedy of mistakes derailed his side.

Moody, a recording for Kane Richardson, embarrassingly got his marching orders after a single legal delivery against the Perth Scorchers for bowling two beamers – the first of which hit Scorchers opener Cam Bancroft in the ribs.

He approached a crouched Bancroft on the non-strike end to apologize for the mishap, which was briefly examined by medical staff before sticking to the crease to score half a century.

Moody crumbled in the scorching West Australian sun and followed that waist-high no-ball with a wide and then another full throw, raised for six by Stephen Eskinazi.

The delivery was then checked and judged another waist-high ball, leaving Moody unbowed for the remainder of the innings.

Scorchers wicket-taker Andrew Tye said he had sympathy for Moody.

“I feel with David Moody, I was there before I was substituted off offense for two waist-ups, but it was certainly an eventful first power play, that’s for sure,” Tye told Fox Cricket.

The error gave captain Aaron Finch an additional headache as the Renegades were up against five recognized bowlers and all-rounder Matt Critchley.

The Renegades were sent to a staggering 62 runs from their first four overs, with Eskinazi also racing to half a century with just 27 deliveries.

BANCROFT GAME WITH POWER

The Scorchers were aggressive from the first ball, Stephen Eskinazi beating Rogers to the limit.

There was a tone.

Eskanazi and Bancroft batted 0-62 from each side in the opening 4-over power play, the biggest of the season. The scoreboard showed a predicted score of 310.

Espinazi had already hit seven limits in his result of 41 balls from 16, including three sixes.

His entertaining 54 of 29 deliveries marked his second half century for the tournament.

Bancroft has emerged as key to the Scorchers’ title chances.

His 95 is now his team’s highest this season and his highest in the BBL.

He has reached half a century three times this season and has not been released.

His record for BBL12 is 289 runs for an average of more than 48. And two of his six termination types have expired.
