Bartender says customers stayed more than 2 hours after closing time

Staying around after hours might not be a big deal for customers, but for those in the service industry it can be a particular annoyance, as one bartender pointed out in a recent TikTok video.

In the video, user Ash (@life_behind_the_bar) is at work at 11:13 p.m. when a customer asks her if the bar is closed.

“Yes, we’re closed at 9am,” Ash replies.

Ash writes in the video how they were in the process of snapchatting when the customer inquired about the closing time. The customer then asks if he could get another drink.

“Sure, I’d like to give you another one,” Ash replies.

Her video had more than 150,000 views as of Friday.

The Daily Dot contacted Ash via TikTok comment. Commenters on the video were curious as to why the bar where Ash works appeared to be closing so early.

“What bar closes at 9?” asked one commenter.

“We close early during the week due to staff shortages so we don’t work over 60 hours every week,” Ash replied via comment.

According to Elite Daily, it’s proper restaurant and bar etiquette to be aware of closing times. The Bar & Restaurant website also reports that “a high percentage of incidents occur in the hour before, during and immediately after a venue closes, and the longer the venue stays open, the higher the risk of incidents.”

Other commenters on Ash’s video urged her to take a stand against customers who stay after hours.

“Control your bar,” said one commenter. “It’s not her place, it’s yours. As a [fellow] Bartender, you must stand [your] Boden and don’t be shy about kicking people out.”

“Aren’t you allowed to tell them to go? I would be so mad haha,” said another commenter.
