Barricades are ready for Black Friday as more shoppers seek deals online – Boston News, Weather, Sports

With more shoppers choosing to shop online, where deals are often just as good as in-store, the tradition of queuing outside the night before seems to be over.

In years past, we’ve found dozens of local residents camping next to stores like Best Buy in Danvers, hoping to snag a big discount on a valuable vacation item. But that’s not the case this year.

The barricades are up, but shoppers won’t be lining up until Friday morning.

Experts say this is due to a change in American shopping preferences. And as in years past, the most sought-after items are where shoppers can save the least.

“Phones, computers, consumer electronics, the things that seem to be on everyone’s shopping list are always the least discounted,” said Wallethub analyst Jill Gonzales. “It’s nothing new this year.”

The best way to be successful on Black Friday, according to Gonzales, is by matching prices.

“Most stores want to adjust prices immediately, they don’t want to lose their business, especially this year,” she said. “So make sure you get the best deal possible and many stores will do so retrospectively too.”
