Barista asks Starbucks to fix dysfunctional lids

A Starbucks barista reached out to TikTok to ask the company to provide better lids and documented the challenges she and a colleague had to successfully complete an order when the tall dome lids failed.

The video was posted to TikTok by creator Emma (@emmalaflair) on Friday, and it’s nearing 250,000 views territory and giving a behind-the-scenes look at Starbucks.

It starts with Emma saying, “This is our request to Starbucks to make the tall dome lids … different because they don’t work.”

The creator then proceeds to prepare an elaborate drink that requires a high dome lid to hold the whipped cream. But when it comes time to put the lid on, she jokes, “And we’re just going to show you how many baristas it takes to put a dome lid on a Frappuccino.”

After first struggling with the lid herself, a colleague comes into the frame and the two work together, going through three different dome lids before—because “the third time is a charm?”—sticking one. After bending down and dealing with the third lid, they attach it, leading the duo to make a thumbs-up gesture to close the video.

Judging by the comments, others are aware that this is an issue.

“And people are wondering why the drinks are taking so long,” one noted. “About 20% of the lids work.”

Another agreed: “THIS,” adding, “I’m this close to throwing Frappuccinos over the kiosk.”

In response, Emma wrote, “We’ve all thought about it here.”

Commenters also suggested a “double cup” solution, leading the creator to remark, “For everyone commenting, YES we know about the double cup rule, but we shouldn’t have to do it twice, especially during a rush that is.” the point. ”

The video brought back memories for another barista, who said, “One time it did this and the cup folded over the drink and exploded all over the place.”

And if it seems extreme for two people to put a lid on, think of the commenter who shared something even more extreme from another Starbucks. “Our Grande/Venti Ones are not working at the moment. It took us 5 people to get it.”

That prompted the Creator to say, “My condolences.”

The Daily Dot reached out to Emma via TikTok comment and Starbucks via email.
