Barcelona blame La Liga for Manchester United’s failed Frenkie de Jong move | Soccer

The Red Devils are believed to have turned down a £52m offer from the Catalans despite their willingness to sell the Dutchman.
Barcelona’s willingness stems from their poor financial situation as the club need to raise significant funds to run their own transfer business.
However, negotiations have stalled as Barcelona want more than the £73m they paid for De Jong to sign him from Ajax in 2019.
The Catalans say their rating is due to the fact that their hands are tied by La Liga rules, which say they can only reinvest a third of the money they’ve received from sales or saved into wages ESPN.
This comes after Barcelona breached a salary cap, which led in part to Lionel Messi’s sensational exit from the club.
United are ready to up their offer for De Jong to around £60m but they want to agree a fee that reflects Barcelona’s financial woes rather than pay more than what the Catalans paid three years ago.
With a new power structure at Old Trafford, those responsible want to send a signal that the mistakes of the past few years are a thing of the past.
For his part, De Jong is keen to stay at the Camp Nou but he understands the club’s financial situation and is ready to reunite with Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.
