A rabbit managed to hold on after being hit by a car and stayed for the drive until it was freed 30 miles later.

Mark Pearson heard “the dreaded bang” as he drove through Wales and slowed to see if he could see something in the rear-view mirror.

Since he couldn’t see anything on the road, he assumed what he had hit had run away.

But in fact, the bunny somehow got stuck in the car’s grille and survived to tell the story.

It survived the 30mph impact near the Bryncynan pub on the outskirts of Nefyn until Mark’s arrival in Bangor on Tuesday.

He parked his car and went to work – and three hours later he was told there was a rabbit on his car.

“I thought it was half a rabbit, but was surprised to find this lucky guy had gone through the bars and been trapped in a closed compartment,” he said.

“We really couldn’t figure out how it got in there until we realized the grille was broken, so it hit it, went through and the plastic is back in place. I didn’t know whether to call the RAC or the RSPCA.

“His head was stuck in the bars so I had to remove it. Aside from some dried nosebleeds, it appeared unharmed.

“Once it was out I put it out in the woods near Parc Menai with a bit of carrot as an excuse.

“A couple of people said I should have put it back where I hit it, but when I came back it ran away. I’ll be back in Bangor tomorrow so if I see it I’ll have a box to bring it back!’
