A nine-year-old boy has died and another boy, aged 13, is fighting for his life after a head-over-heel crash involving two dirt bikes.
The pair are believed to have been riding the off-road bikes at a park on an estate in Ballymena, Northern Ireland, on Thursday afternoon.
They were taken to a hospital in Belfast, one of whom was flown in an ambulance.
But the younger man could not be saved and succumbed to his injuries on Friday night.
The older boy remains in critical condition.
Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward.
Local politicians said the community at the Dunclug estate was traumatized by the incident.
SDLP Council Member Eugene Reid told UTV: “My thoughts and prayers go out to the family especially the boy who has passed away but to both families as it is just horrible in these tragic circumstances in these tragic circumstances Losing a child and hurting a child, but under the circumstances I find it worse.”
DUP MP Ian Paisley said: “To the young people and families involved, like everyone, our thoughts are with them. You are at the forefront of our prayers.’
He is to be briefed by police on the incident and said he would “make suggestions to ensure these circumstances can be avoided in the future”.
Members of the Northern Ireland assembly of the Sinn Fein and Alliance parties also expressed their condolences.
