Three vacationers have reportedly died following a “health emergency” at a luxury resort in the Bahamas.

Two American men and a woman were found unresponsive at Sandals Emerald Bay in Exuma on Friday.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of death and the connections between the three incidents.

The Bahamas holiday destination is popular with Brits, along with other hotels in the chain across the Caribbean.

Chester Cooper, the country’s tourism minister, told the Mirror another woman had been flown to a hospital in the capital.

He said “foul play is not suspected” but it remains unclear how everyone in the immediate vicinity fell ill.

In a statement, he said: “I have been briefed on the matter by the police commissioner and management of the resort… Police are investigating and the cause of death is still unknown.

“However, I have been advised that there is no suspicion of foul play”

He added: “The public will be updated with information as it becomes available. We extend our thoughts and prayers to the affected families.’

According to People, local police believe two of the deceased had complained the night before about feeling ill.

A spokesman for the force said: “Our initial inquiries found that the couple who were found in the second villa complained of illness the night before.

“They visited the local medical facility and returned to their accommodation after completing treatment.”

They said two of the victims – a couple – were found on the same property and showed signs of “convulsions” but there was no evidence of trauma.

A Sandals spokesperson said, “Nothing is more important to Sandals Resorts than the safety of our guests.

“It is with deep sadness that we confirm the death of three guests at Emerald Bay Resort on May 6, 2022.

“Initially, a health emergency was declared and, in accordance with our protocols, we immediately alerted emergency medical professionals and relevant local authorities to provide assistance and investigate the situation.”
