Bahamas: Coast Guard halts search for ex-cop who dived into shipwreck | US News

The search for an ex-cop who disappeared while freediving to a shipwreck in the Bahamas has been called off.
Proulx, an American citizen, was last seen Friday wearing red fins and a green top near the wreck, which is 1.5 miles west of Bimini Inlet. according to the Seventh Coast Guard District. Coast Guard crews assisted the Royal Bahamas Defense Force in locating Proulx.
The The attempt was aborted after Coast Guard aircrew searched more than 573 square miles for 6.5 hours.
On Monday, Coast Guard liaison officer Lt Cmdr Matt Spado specified: “We offer our deepest condolences to the Proulx family.”
“The decision to suspend active search efforts pending further development is never one to be taken lightly.”
Proulx’ sister Nicole, answered on Twitter: “Thank you for your efforts in locating my brother.”
Although the official search has ended, Proulx’s family is trying to assemble a volunteer team to continue searching for him.
“You brought us all together and showed us how it’s done. You loved the water more than anyone I have met and I am proud to call it your final resting place.” Facebook. “I love you brother, you are already missed.”
Proulx was an experienced diver and fisherman and had his own charter company called Blue Runner, operating out of Rhode Island. The son of a police officer, Proulx served in Connecticut’s East Hartford Police Department from 2017 to 2021.
The search for Proulx was called off a day before the disappearance of the tourist submarine OceanGate Expeditions, which was carrying five passengers to the Titanic wreck, in the Atlantic. Among those missing are noted French diver Paul-Henri Nargeolet and British billionaire explorer Hamish Harding.
Coast Guard crews and officials from several countries have joined the race to search for the submarine.
