Avatar: The Way of Water Passes $2 Billion at the Global Box Office – Boston News, Weather, Sports

(CNN) — As has often been the case throughout his unprecedented career, JamesCameron made film history again this weekend.

Its long-awaited sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water, has now grossed over $2 billion worldwide, as reported by meeting.

This total comes from this weekend’s box office earnings for the film, the sixth straight weekend the film has held the number one spot since its December release.

CNN has reached out to Disney’s Avatar: The Way of Water production studio for comment on the film’s recent financial success.

Avatar: The Way of Water is the sequel to Cameron’s 2009 extraterrestrial epic Avatar, which remains at the top of the list of best-selling films of all time Box office mojo.

Another Cameron film is also in the $2 billion club – 1997’s Titanic. Only three other films belong to this club – 2015’s Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens, Avengers: Infinity War” from 2018 and “Avengers: Endgame” from a year later.

Cameron is therefore the only director to boast that three of his films are among the six that have grossed over $2 billion and are among the top six best selling films of all time.

The director is planning a release at least three more Avatar sequels are moving forward.
