A woman whose life was turned upside down after an accident awoke from a coma to find her boyfriend had abandoned her while she was still unconscious.

Brie Duval had moved to Australia from her native Canada and continued a relationship with the man she dated for four years.

The 25-year-old suffered a brain injury after falling from a car park through a gap in the wall left unfinished by construction workers.

She was flown to an Alberta hospital last August and placed on life support in intensive care.

Brie told the Mirror she was in a coma for four weeks and suffered multiple fractures, with her family warning there was only a slim chance she would pull through.

When she finally woke up, she texted her boyfriend, but soon found he had blocked her on social media and cut the connection.

She told the newspaper: “I finally got my phone and my first thought was to call him and just see if he knows what happened. He hadn’t been with me.

“So I opened my phone to text him when a message popped up from this woman saying I’m dating her now [partner’s name].

‘I undressed him. He is now living with me and my son, please do not contact him.

“Since I’ve been in the hospital I haven’t heard from him, he has completely let me down. So I don’t even know why this happened.

Brie also revealed that her parents were unable to be with her due to the strict Australian Covid-19 laws in place at the time.

She said a request for a special exemption was denied by the authorities.

She set up a TikTok account to share her experiences of living with a traumatic brain injury, including relearning simple tasks like walking.

Under the name @hotcomagirl, she documents her life dealing with the aftermath of the accident.
