Aussies shock the baseball world with a stunning South Korea

But South Korea’s batsmen woke up in the fifth and sixth innings.

Up to this point, South Australian Jack O’Loughlin had put down the first two innings perfectly and Western Australia’s Mitch Neunborn followed him in retiring the first seven batsmen he faced.

It took 14 plate appearances before Korea finally had a runner on base with a walk in fifth place.

They then stacked it up and Euiji Yang flicked a ball over reliever Dan McGrath’s left field fence to put them 3-2 ahead before ByungHo Park drilled a ball from the top of the left field wall for another run.

South Korea started the game with star pitcher Ko Young-Pyo, who went 4.1 innings and conceded four hits, two runs and two batters.

After that, Korea used seven different helpers to finish the game.

Australia, which is ranked No. 10 in the world, also emptied the nine-pitch bullpen.

They lead early in Pool B, with two of the five teams set to advance from round-robin play to the quarterfinals next week.

Australia meet China next on Saturday, where they are expected to win and put themselves in a solid position to progress. They also face hosts Japan and the Czech Republic in their pool.
