Attack on Midtown Bar parking lot leads to auto theft and other crimes in St. Louis

ST. LOUIS – St. Louis police are searching for a trio who took advantage of the generosity of a 67-year-old man by kidnapping and kidnapping him over the weekend.

The incident began around 8:30 p.m. Sunday, according to a spokesman for the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.

The victim told investigators he was at a BP gas station when two men and a woman approached him and asked for a ride to the Midtown Bar on Vandeventer Avenue. The victim agreed to drive the three to the bar. After arriving at the parking lot, the trio pulled out guns and began beating the victim.

The suspects took control of the victim’s car, a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta, and drove through St. Louis while he was held at gunpoint in the vehicle. The victim told police the group “committed a variety of crimes,” although police did not disclose the nature of the incident.

The 67-year-old was able to escape sometime Monday while the trio fled in their Jetta. The victim contacted the police around 3:10 p.m. in the afternoon. He was taken to a local hospital and treated for his injuries sustained during the initial attack.

The only significant description from police is that one of the male suspects was nicknamed “Big D.”
