Astros’ Verlander by 6 no-hit innings against Twins

MINNEAPOLIS – Justin Verlander played six hitless innings on 66 pitches for the Houston Astros against the Minnesota Twins.
The 39-year-old right-hander was perfect in four innings Tuesday night before allowing Jorge Polanco a leadoff walk in the fifth. Verlander got Gio Urshela to double play a pitch later to withdraw Polanco.
He also gave out a two-out walk to No. 9 hitter Gilberto Celestino in the sixth inning.
Verlander has thrown three no-hitters in his successful career, most recently in 2019 with the Astros against Toronto. He also threw two with the Detroit Tigers.
The two-time Cy Young Award winner competed on Tuesday with a 3-1 record and 1.93 ERA in five starts this year after missing all of 2021 and most of 2020 due to surgery by Tommy John .
His best start of the year before Tuesday came on April 16, when he pitched eight innings without a goal and conceded just three hits against Seattle.
