Philippe Coutinho has signed a permanent contract with Aston Villa and has signed a contract with the Premier League club until 2026.
The 29-year-old has been at Villa Park since January when he went on a six-month loan but that has now been made permanent for an undisclosed fee.
The Brazil international has made 16 Premier League appearances while on loan at Villa, scoring four goals and providing three assists.
Villa boss Steven Gerrard, who played with Coutinho in Liverpool’s days, is thrilled to sign the playmaker on permanent basis as he seeks to build an ambitious Villains squad.
Gerrard said: “This is a brilliant signing for AstonVilla. Phil is a model professional and his impact on the group has been evident since joining in January.
“With his appearance on and off the field, he is also a valuable role model for our younger players, who can only benefit from his experience.
“As we work towards next season it’s incredible to work at a club who run their business so decisively and smoothly.”
Coutinho seems to have enjoyed his Premier League return and his renewed collaboration with Gerrard.
In February, the Brazilian told Sky Sports: “I really like it here. I missed the Premier League and the people here. They treated me really well and I missed that. It’s good to be back.
“We talked a lot before I came. He spoke about the club, the ambitions here, the fans, his ambitions and that was definitely what I wanted. I made my decision very quickly. I am here now and I am very happy at the moment.”
