Mikel Arteta remains keen to strengthen his Arsenal side before Thursday night’s transfer window closes, with the Spaniard being open about his determination to sign more players.

The Gunners have had a strong start to the season, winning all four Premier League games so far this season.

Arsenal have been one of the biggest donors in world football this summer, securing players such as Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Pablo Vieira for around £130million this summer.

Arteta remains open to more signings, however, and the Spaniard feels his squad is weak in many areas.

That has prompted the Gunners to identify Wolves ace Pedro Neto as a priority target and the club had hoped to sign the Portuguese winger before the transfer window closes.

However, the athlete says the move is now “highly unlikely” for two reasons.

Firstly, Wolves are unwilling to let Neto go in the window so late because they hadn’t planned on losing the 22-year-old this summer.

Second, the club’s asking price of £50m is deemed too high by Arsenal, who value the winger at closer to £30m.

The Gunners therefore do not expect to sign Neto this summer but will keep the midfielder in mind for the remainder of the season with a view to bidding for him again in 2023.
