Arsenal are interested in Inter Milan left-back Federico Dimarco but are reportedly unwilling to pay the fee demanded by the Italian club.
The Gunners are looking to boost their full-back options after being slightly left behind in the 2021-22 season.
Kieran Tierney’s injury problems continued to keep him out of action throughout the season Nuno Tavares struggled to appear consistently when asked to fill in for him.
The 24-year-old made 32 appearances for Inter, who finished second in Serie A this season, and also recorded two goals and four assists in Italy’s top flight.
The Gunners could be priced out of a move, however, as the report says Inter are asking for a fee in excess of £20m for the left-back.
It is said that the north London club do not want to spend so much money on a player who will not start every week.
The Gunners, who finished fifth in the Premier League, have also been linked with the likes of Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus and Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans.
According to Arsenal legend Paul Merson, the club should focus on attracting experienced players for next season.
“The next few players Arsenal buy will have to be experienced professionals, ideally 28 or 29 years old, I think. You need experience in a team. They have a truckload of promising youngsters, but they froze when it mattered. They need to get some experience on the team,” Merson told the Daily Star.
“Gabriel Jesus would be a good fit. He’s only 25 but he ticks all the boxes because he scores, Arteta knows him and he has experience of winning trophies with Manchester City. It’s okay to have young players, but the problem is that one minute they’re at the top and the next minute they’re at the bottom.
“You can’t play well every week. It is impossible. That comes with age. That’s why they need help. And Arsenal don’t have the quality, experienced leaders to do that. This is a tough league – and they’re being targeted too. The teams tell the players to pick up Bukayo Saka now because they know he’s a big danger man.
“It’s about getting through those tough 20 minutes in games at places like Newcastle where you have to get a result. You learn that as you get older.
“That’s the most important thing in this next window – bringing in experience. It’s her biggest window in a very long time, if I’m being honest. You got it so wrong in January. I don’t know anyone who thinks that’s a success.
“The season was disappointing because they hit above their weight. You started with three losses in a row, remember. But if they get it right this time I think they have a good season ahead of them, I really do. The children are a year older. They should have a stronger side if they buy well.’
