According to reports in Italy, Arsenal are preparing a new offer for Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic after his initial offer of €55m (£47.2m) was rejected.

After completing a £45m deal for Gabriel Jesus this week, Mikel Arteta is looking to bolster his options in central midfield ahead of the new season.

Arsenal have also targeted Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans, who has just one year left on his contract with the Foxes.

But according to Rome-based newspaper Il Messaggero, Arsenal have now turned down an offer from Lazio for Milinkovic-Savic.

The report claims Lazio would be ready to sell the Serbia international this summer, but only if Arsenal meet their €65m (£55.8m) valuation.

Milinkovic-Savic was one of Lazio’s standouts in Serie A last season as he helped Maurizio Sarri’s side fifth in the table with 11 goals and 11 assists.

Il Messaggero reports that Sarri wouldn’t stand in the midfielder’s way if he wanted to join Arsenal as the money will be used to rebuild his squad.

The 27-year-old has two years left on his current contract at Lazio.

Arsenal also remain confident of beating Manchester United in the race to sign Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez.

Both United and Arsenal have submitted bids but Ajax are holding out on a €50m (£42.9m) fee. It’s understood that the Argentine is keen on a move to the Premier League.
