Mikel Arteta is looking to strengthen his Arsenal squad in the coming months after a stunning end to the 2021-22 season.
The Gunners were aiming for a top-four finish for most of the season but struggled towards the end of the season to slip to fifth place, two points behind north London rivals Tottenham.
Arteta needs to sign a new striker following the recent departures of Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and also wants a new centre-back and centre-back.
Former Arsenal striker Nicholas believes Gabriel Jesus would be “a very good signing” as the Manchester City star weighs his future amid interest from the Gunners, Real Madrid, Chelsea and Tottenham.
“He wasn’t a favorite under Pep Guardiola and hasn’t always played but if they get him for a decent price I’d be amazed if he doesn’t score at least 20 league goals for Arsenal,” Nicholas told BonusCodeBets.
“Jesus likes to do that. He likes to play on the edge of the box with a nice pace and Arsenal miss that. It would be a very good signing if they could nail him.
Merson, meanwhile, has backed Arsenal’s move for his compatriot Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City.
Write in a column for Sportskeeda, Merson said: “Zinchenko doesn’t play for City all the time, but he’s been a top player for Guardiola and never looks out of place no matter where he’s deployed on the pitch.
“For Ukraine, he plays as a central midfielder and looks like a real footballer who can make the difference at any point in the game.
“A lot of people don’t talk about it but Zinchenko somehow changed the game for Manchester City after coming on as a substitute against Aston Villa on the final day of the Premier League season.
“He was involved in the first goal and got the crowd going with his work rate and determination, which is exactly what you want to see.
“Not just in this game but he doesn’t let the fans or the manager down and is a brilliant player in the squad.
“I think some top teams will try to buy him this summer because he’s not a guaranteed starter for Manchester City.
“Zinchenko doesn’t get the recognition he deserves and would be a fitting addition to any team in world football. It will be interesting to see where he ends up.”
