Arrest warrant issued for former WA One Nation Senator Rod Culleton

A 58-year-old former Western Australian One Nation senator has failed to appear in court to face allegations that he lied in his bid to run in the 2022 general election and there is now an arrest warrant out for him.

Rod Culleton, who ran as a candidate for the Great Australia Party, is said to have lied about his financial circumstances as part of his nomination as a Senate candidate.

The Australian Electoral Commission raised concerns that he may have signed false statements, and Culleton was charged after Australian Federal Police opened an Operation Wilmot Taskforce investigation.

He was expected to stand before Perth Magistrate’s Court on September 30 on charges of providing information to the Commission, knowing the information was false.

The maximum penalty was 12 months imprisonment.

AFP Detective Acting Superintendent Andrea Coleman said police allege Culleton falsely stated he was not an unfired bankrupt.

Police say this would bar him from sitting as a senator or member of the House of Representatives.

“AFP will accuse the man of making a fraudulent claim on nomination forms in an attempt to win senatorship in the recent federal election,” Coleman said.

“AFP is committed to protecting democracy, and officers will press charges if they have evidence that someone has committed a crime in order to mislead the community or to gain some advantage.” Arrest warrant issued for former WA One Nation Senator Rod Culleton
