“He was out there to protect his brother and he walked out and from inside my car and my car, they just opened fire. They shot my son five times, he didn’t even stand a chance. I looked. His son died right in front of my face.”

KOB 4 talked to Otero many times this year like she continues her quest for justice.

“And, you know, we really feel like every time a new murder is committed, the case of our kids comes first,” said Otero.

A newly filed search warrant names 18-year-old Anna Bella Dukes and 17-year-old Adrian Avila as suspects in Elias’ murder.

According to the subpoenas, Dukes, Avila and others committed more than one break-in.

On Feb. 10 – subpoena says Dukes lured a victim to Alvarado Park in northeastern Albuquerque. There the victim said that two armed men attacked him, In this case, no one was injured.

The next day, Dukes allegedly lured Elias Otero’s brother to the same park, but things didn’t work out.

“My youngest son had his car robbed and they not only wanted the car but also the money. So my youngest son drove to my eldest son’s house – Elias. My oldest son is out. outside to protect his brother and he was shot dead,” said Otero.

Court filings detail that in the following months, police received a wanted warrant, giving them access to the Dukes’ social media profiles and phone records.

Through that, they were able to connect Dukes with Avila. As it turns out, this isn’t the first murder that Avila has been linked to.

The documents also connect Avila to a murder at Lasseter Park in August 2020.

Police are currently looking for both Dukes and Avila.
