At least one person has died in a crash involving eight semi-trucks and three passenger vehicles on an Arkansas highway.
According to the Arkansas Department of Transportation, several people were injured in the pile-up on Interstate 30 just outside of Mavern on Wednesday afternoon. The exact number of people injured was not immediately disclosed.
Plumes of smoke could be seen from the scene of the accident near mile marker 85.5 north of Caddo Valley.
The cause of the Hot Springs County accident is still under investigation.
Pictures of the accident showed semi-trucks overturned on the freeway, engulfed in flames that reached into the median.
Traffic was backed up for miles on the Autobahn, and eastbound lanes were closed. Meanwhile, traffic flow was sluggish in the westbound lanes. Traffic was diverted to exit 91 as authorities attempted to clear the area, THV11 reported.
The state traffic office reported shortly before 2:30 p.m. that, according to KOLR, at least one person died in the crash.
Dangerous material was not involved in the crash.
