Arbeiter says boss let her go earlier after first asking her to stay longer

A restaurant worker on TikTok says her manager sent her home early after saying she couldn’t stay longer than her scheduled shift.

The TikToker, known as Ava Marie (@avahayes69), says she was five hours into her scheduled six-hour shift when her manager asked if she could stay for an eight-hour shift.

Ava Marie says she told her manager she had plans after work and couldn’t stay behind. The creator also explains that she should go to work the next morning. Her manager reportedly replied that it was fine.

But apparently it wasn’t okay because the TikToker says the manager came back two minutes later and told her to go home.

“[He’s] like ‘we don’t fucking need you, you can go home,'” says Ava Marie. She says she asked him if she could stay for the last hour of her shift, but he reportedly told her, “No, go home.”

Ava Marie in the video drops her jaw at this response and says she went home as instructed.

Her TikTok has received around 590,000 views on the social media platform as of Tuesday.

In a comment below her video, the TikToker adds that the incident happened on Father’s Day when her workplace had a three-hour wait.

Viewers had a mixed reaction to TikToker’s story. Some viewers said Ava Marie’s manager exhibited typical and even “petty” managerial behavior.

“Watch how they say you asked to leave or left. Managers are so shady,” commented one viewer.

“Retail managers are the worst… I still have dreams that I never gave up and forgot to go to my shift,” commented a second viewer.

Some viewers claimed it was illegal for the manager to send Ava Marie home before her scheduled shift ended.

“You are entitled to your scheduled shift, they cannot force you to leave,” said one user.

“This is called retaliation and is illegal,” claimed another user.

“Wait, but honestly, what can you do when they do?” someone else asked.

In response to that comment, Ava Marie wrote, “Literally nothing, that’s why I went home.”
