Arbeiter says boss asked him to come to office – he’s moved

As many companies sent their employees to work from home in 2020 at the height of the pandemic, some jumped at the opportunity to relocate or otherwise make lifestyle changes with a newfound sense of flexibility.

A popular TikToker, Stephen (@righteous_laughs), claims he was asked to come back to the office after working remotely for “a few years” and has moved far enough to require a flight, to overcome the distance. Since Stephen is a comedy TikToker, it’s unclear if the video is a joke or not.

“My boss told me a few years ago I could start working from home,” says Stephen, who has over 60,000 followers, in the video. “He just called me and asked if I could go into the office. I moved houses.”

In a follow-up video, he says all is forgiven once he gets on a flight. So he jokes about catching a flight to Paris since his boss didn’t give a destination.

“I just got back from a Zoom meeting with the boss,” he says. “Everything went well if you think about it. Told me all I had to do was get on a flight and all would be forgiven. Thanks for the trip to Paris Bob.”

While the video may be a joke, some commenters who took the video at face value noted the value of remote work or said they resonated with it.

“Most, if not all, office jobs can be done at home,” wrote one commenter. “These office buildings can be converted into much-needed apartments.”

“I did the same,” wrote another commenter. “They weren’t very happy.”

“I was told so we can get back to normal,” wrote a third. “Dawg…I’ve worked out of the office longer than in the office for this company.”

“Boss in California: Hey buddy, we need you back in the office. Me in Texas: uhhhh,” said a fourth.

Stephen’s two videos have been viewed a total of 800,000 times.
