Arbeiter exceeded company expectations by doing what was “necessary”.

In a now-viral TikTok, one worker said he received a bonus and enthusiastic feedback after his annual performance review despite doing “the bare minimum” at his job at the company.
TikTok user @wwavvyyjayy posted the video on February 23. In it, he said he started his new job with the “log in, do my job, clock out” mindset, but was told in a meeting with him that he had “exceeded expectations” from his manager.
“I have exceeded the Company’s expectations by doing the bare minimum of what is required of me, my job responsibilities. I do quality work and I know how to do my job,” he said in the clip.
The TikToker recalled “busting his ass” at previous jobs, only to be told he “lived up to expectations.”
“When you work at a company, just do what is asked of you and I promise it will pay off,” he continued. “Because it has paid off for me. I have never seen such a high bonus.”

In the comments section, viewers discussed their own approaches to managing the effort they put into their work.
“You quickly learn that everyone has different ways of working and thinking. Your bare minimum is someone else’s full effort lol,” commented one user.
“Yes! Exceeded expectations and then decided to scale back my efforts and stop working overtime. 6 months later I received another beats ex,” wrote another.
“I’m with you, it took me a while to learn this. There’s no need to go beyond that because work doesn’t recognize it and gives you more work,” added a third.
Others were more skeptical of @wwavvyyjayy’s “the bare minimum” mentality.
“Perhaps for your particular organization. But I can tell you that in big tech or any other industry, ‘necessities’ get fired from high performing teams,” one viewer commented.
“So you can partially thank your colleagues. You set the bar low, so you came out on top when ranking employees. Sounds like you have a good Mgr too,” wrote another.
