Applicant sneaks out of interview after given drug test

A user on TikTok went viral after saying she snuck out of a job interview because she was asked to take a drug test. Commentators applauded their brave actions.

The video posted by Dee (@richhdee) has been viewed more than 61,000 times. “Ma’am, that wasn’t in the job description,” she captioned the video, which began with her hiding in the bathroom after her potential employer allegedly asked her if she was ready for the drug test.

“Bitch, I’ll go,” she said as she stalked the hallways in search of escape. “Drug test who?” she said as she got into the elevator.

Currently, recreational marijuana use is legal in 21 states in the United States (medical marijuana is legal in 37). In Connecticut, for example, retailers are now allowed to sell cannabis products to adults over the age of 21.

The popularity boom is affecting the workforce. Depending on state laws, companies have the ability to test their employees—and even potential employees—for drugs. If an applicant fails or refuses the drug test, the employer may refuse to hire an employee.

However, companies that require applicants to take a drug test should make it clear that passing a drug test is a requirement for a job offer. This can be identified in the job posting, offer letter or other official documents.

When you consider this information, you can see why many TikTokers applauded Dee for abruptly leaving her interview.

“Nah, cus don’t play with my time like that. let me know what to expect ahead of time bookieeee,” one user wrote.

“Lmaaoooooo these are things to warn about,” added another.

“I always say no lol. I have to pick up or summon the children. Let me reschedule for the next day,” joked a third.

Some users shared their own drug testing stories — including their failures.

“It happened to me once. I took the test with a smile knowing I failed,” this user wrote with a laughing emoji.

“Why did I actually take the test they called a few days later and was like you failed? I tried to act surprised, didn’t I? how can that be,” commented another.

Clever try-and-pass tricks don’t always work, as evidenced by one user’s story: “I bought an $80 detox kit and failed,” they wrote.

Finally, some users wrote that the best way to prepare for an interview is to take a drug test.

“You need to be prepared,” wrote one. Another shared, “This is my worst fear so I’m trying to look at the reviews on google because I’m not ready right away.”
