Anthony Joshua predicts an undisputed showdown Tyson Fury is the biggest spur in his rematch against Oleksandr Usyk.

Joshua and Usyk faced off Tuesday at a press conference in Saudi Arabia ahead of their August 20 IBF, WBO and WBA heavyweight title fight.

The undefeated Ukrainian delivered a boxing feat to dethrone Joshua at Tottenham Hotspur last September, earning him just the second loss of his pro career.

The only other time the Brit has suffered defeat was against Andy Ruiz Jr in 2019 – en route to Saudi Arabia to avenge that loss and regain his titles later that year.

Joshua has to do the same against Usyk in Jeddah this summer – the two set the stage for another fight with an intense stare on stage with neither willing to take their eyes off.

As the fighters answered questions from the attending press, the subject of Fury inevitably came up. The WBC champion insisted he has now retired from boxing after his knockout win over Dillian Whyte in April.

Many are anticipating the possibility of a fight to crown heavyweight boxing’s first undisputed heavyweight champion, as Lennox Lewis will be enough to bring “The Gypsy King” out of retirement, whether against Joshua or Usyk.

And Joshua opened the door to that fight again. When asked if the opportunity to fight Fury for all the belts was the biggest incentive for his rematch against Usyk, he said: “100 percent. It must be. If I sat here and told you it wasn’t, I would be lying to you, to myself, and to the world.

“For the fans it’s a must-win fight, the man is retired but who knows? Retirement doesn’t mean you can’t come back.

“I think if the opportunity arises we’ll see if he comes back. but let me win this fight, then another door will open.’
