Anthony Edwards twisted his ankle and needed help getting off the ground

TO UPDATE: Anthony Edwards returned to the Minnesota bench but was not in his uniform and had a boot on his foot.

EARLIER: The Minnesota Timberwolves’ attempt to avoid the Western Conference play-in tournament may have taken a big hit on Friday night. During the team’s game against the Chicago Bulls, All-Star guard Anthony Edwards twisted his ankle and was in significant pain. Edwards had to be helped to the dressing room and was unable to put weight on his leg.

Edwards had the ball high on the key late in the first quarter when he was picked up by Bulls guard Alex Caruso. He saw Mike Conley on the wing so he jumped in the air to throw the ball to him. While it was getting there, Edwards landed and rolled his right ankle. He immediately cried out in pain and began holding his leg, and after being tended to by the team’s training staff, he was taken to the dressing room.

It’s a brutal turn of events for Minnesota, who are sitting at 35-35 and 7th in the Western Conference at this point in the season. The team is a game out of the 6 seeds in the West, but also only has a 1.5-game lead if they miss the postseason overall. We will keep you informed as more information becomes available on Edwards’ status in the future.
