A grieving mother of a Russian conscript killed in the sinking of the Moskva warship claims she was told her son was “burned to ashes”.

Olga Dubinina has hit back at Russian authorities, accusing them of subjecting bereaved families to “lies” and “blackmail”.

Her son Nikita Syromyasov, 20, died when Vladimir Putin’s flagship sank in the Black Sea on April 14 – but to date the Kremlin has only confirmed one official death, with 27 others reported as “missing”.

Ukrainian intelligence estimates that around 250 sailors died when the ship sank, although the actual death toll could be higher.

“I don’t believe a single word, not a single word of what they say,” she told local media. “No matter what rank, it’s all a complete lie.”

Olga claims she still hasn’t received official confirmation of Nikita’s death and has only been offered compensation if she signs a document agreeing that the ship was “not” hit by Ukrainian missiles.

“It’s a kind of… blackmail,” she said.

When asked if she would sign, she replied, “Of course not. What is that statement? Death by disaster?

“I am not satisfied with this wording and I do not agree [this is how] my son has died.

“If they disagree, I say, ‘Prove it to me’. Now they also say he burned to ashes.’

The mother from Sevastopol added: “They only talk to us, they don’t give us anything in writing.

“There is a group that was sent to work with people like me whose sons and husbands have disappeared.

“They say they’re conducting some sort of search, and then it turns out they’re not conducting a search at all.

“We think so because not a single body fragment has been found since April 25, which is ridiculous.”

Russia has reportedly reversed an official denial that the Moscow River was involved in the military conflict when it sank.

On board was a crew of 510 – including an estimated 300 conscripts, although Putin said conscripts were not sent to war.
