Angel Di Maria gives Real Madrid hope of future Kylian Mbappe deal after dramatic U-turn | Soccer

Mbappe, 23, was due to join Spanish champions Madrid this summer but has instead committed himself to PSG, signing a lucrative new three-year deal with the French giants.

Real Madrid were stunned by the about-face, while Mbappe celebrated his new contract with a hat-trick in a 5-0 win over Metz on the final day of Ligue 1 season.

“I think he made the right decision,” said outgoing Paris Saint-Germain star Di Maria, who played for Real Madrid between 2010 and 2014.

“He’s still young and has time to go to Madrid, he has time to go where he wants, he’s only signed for three years and he’s going to be 26, he still has a lot to do.

“He likes to make history and he will continue to make history here, he’s scored almost 200 goals.”

Asked if he could see his PSG team-mate at the Bernabeu in 2025, Di Maria added: “I don’t know, the people in Madrid are complicated, the Bernabeu is difficult but he has the talent to win them.”

Di Maria, who played his last game for Paris Saint-Germain, also scored in the club’s last-day win against Metz.

The Argentine winger wanted to stay at PSG for another season but the French champions confirmed earlier this week that his contract would not be renewed.

“The club knew I wanted to stay and play another year to achieve the goal I set for myself when I arrived, which was to win the Champions League,” said Di Maria.

“We were very close to playing a final. That’s the only thing I regret. I know the guys will continue on the same path and try to win it. My decision was to stay, they told me no, but today I’m calm.’

When asked about his next move, Di Maria added: “For now I’m going to stay still and think a little more about my family and I and see what’s best for me and my family and then find a place where we can.” will be happy and calm.’
