Andy Serkis would return to Lord of the Rings with Jackson

Andy Serkis is the rare actor to rise to fame playing a CGI character. His mo-cap turns out to be Gollum, the ring-possessed creature Lord of the Rings, was a game changer for the industry: a fully CGI character that was completely believable on screen. It’s been a while since he’s played it – he had a cameo in the first one hobbit movie, and last year he used his voice in a Putin impersonation – but he would do it again. That is, with one important condition.

“See, [producers] Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens are something of a second family that I’ve become a part of and made so many films with,” Serkis said on BroBible post-credit Podcast as caught by diversity. “And – let me tell you – they are the best and most incredible people to work with. I think there are so many other potential Middle-earth projects that could come up and if they do go ahead I would of course jump at the chance to rekindle that relationship.”

He added: “Middle-earth never left me.”

Of course, Serkis has moved on to other CGI (and non-CGI) characters. He played Caesar in Three planet of monkeys movies, and right now he’s Alfred in the Robert Pattinson Batman wing of the DC verse. Tolkien’s World, meanwhile, has been rebooted as an expensive Amazon series, minus Jackson, Walsh and team. But their paths could always cross.
