Andrew Robertson has called for answers after Liverpool fans suffered appalling treatment before and after in Paris Champions League final on Saturday night.
It was a night to remember for the Reds on the pitch, being beaten 1-0 by Real Madrid at the Stade de France, but there were far worse scenes off the pitch.
Liverpool fans were held in a confined space for hours before the game and unnecessarily tear-gassed by police while barred from entering the stadium.
There were then reports of muggings and attacks on fans after the game with little police intervention.
There has been widespread confusion as to why Liverpool fans have been treated this way and the Reds left-back wants answers from the authorities.
Robertson tweeted: “For the Liverpool fans in Paris it was a shame what happened to you. You deserve so much better and now answers must follow. I hope you all got home safely.’
Despite the disappointing result in France, thousands turned out for a bus parade in Liverpool on Sunday as the side displayed their FA Cup and League Cup trophies won this season.
Robertson added: “To the Liverpool fans, I will never forget today’s parade. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! Means everything to the boys!
“It’s been a long old season and we couldn’t have fought on without you by our side. See you next season.”
Robertson’s attention will now immediately turn to international action as his Scotland side face Ukraine in the play-offs with a bid to reach the World Cup later this year.
The winners then take on Wales for a place in Qatar on Sunday.
