An online sex shop has released an Amber Heard style bottle dildo

This story contains discussions of sexual assault and rape.

An online sex toy store, Twisted Fantasies, released a new bottleneck-shaped dildo, a reference to Amber Heard’s testimony detailing Johnny Depp’s alleged sexual assault with a glass bottle during the defamation trial. This prompted backlash on Twitter, with many criticizing the product’s lack of sensitivity to sexual assault survivors.

Florida-based shop Twisted Fantasies (@Tw_fantasies) tweeted the product on June 9th, followed by a series of hashtags including “#justiceforjohnnydepp”. The tweet reads, “Reach new depths with the new Amber’s Mark Liquor Bottle Dildo. Designed with a solid base and thick shaft with textured teardrops for added pleasure!”

Heard testified in court that during an argument about his drinking in March 2015, Depp allegedly threatened to “cut up” her face with a broken alcohol bottle. whether the bottle was broken or not. “I couldn’t feel it,” she said. “I couldn’t feel anything.”

The product was released just over a week after the trial’s verdict. Depp sued Heard for defamation damages in 2018 for $50 million Washington Post Comment that didn’t specifically name Depp, claiming he’s lost several roles, damaging his reputation as a result. Heard is suing Depp for $100 million. The June 1 verdict saw Depp pay more than $10 million in damages and Heard $2 million in damages.

The trial led to an explosion of pro-dork content on social media, which has also led to the spread of misinformation and conspiracy theories that have been circulated across platforms like TikTok. Much of this support, as well as hatred, of Heard comes from conservatives who believe the trial is a reckoning with the impact of the #MeToo movement.

As a result of the Heard sex toy referencing an alleged assault case, Twisted Fantasies has been criticized online. The post received over 400 quote tweets.

Several argued that it was unethical to profit from such a sensitive issue.

“Any freaks who capitalize on this process go straight to hell. especially you, you NEVER see the pearly gates,” one user wrote in a quote tweet.

“Classic capitalism profits from the suffering of women,” wrote another.

Many others claimed that regardless of each individual’s opinion of Heard and the trial, the product could be triggering for other survivors who found themselves in similar situations. They also criticized the publication of the trial.

“Therefore it was a crime against humanity to have a woman testify about sexual assault live in front of the whole world,” wrote one Twitter user. β€œBelieve Amber or not, many people have been bottle raped. Make fun of something [a] A woman’s story of being raped by a bottle is an insult to all of them.”

Twisted Fantasies shared a expression on Twitter just two hours after the product announcement. The store argued that Heard’s story of alleged domestic abuse and sexual assault was a lie, citing Heard’s former assistant’s claim that her own history as a survivor influenced Heard’s story.

“[Heard] stole the story from her personal assistant, Kate James, and turned it into her own. She used a very real platform to get the world on her side,” the statement said. “With ample evidence, it was proved in court that she changed and lied to all of her allegations, including the night of her alleged rape. Amber Heard used a move against her husband because he was a man no one would believe.”

“In this process, Johnny Depp won in every respect and reaffirmed that men can also be victims of abuse,” the statement continued. β€œIf you find this product a trigger, we apologize, as that is not the intent. However, we stand behind it as a tongue-in-cheek way of supporting Johnny Depp and anyone fighting their abuser.”

Several Twitter users also criticized the company’s statement.

“So it’s okay because you don’t believe Amber, but you’re fine with mocking Kate’s claims even though you believe them? So hurting a woman who will likely never see that is worth hurting regular abuse victims who will see that,” one user tweeted.
