BIDDEFORD, Maine (AP) — Two people were killed Sunday in the southern Maine town of Biddeford by an Amtrak train, local police confirmed.
An Amtrak spokesman said the two people trespassed on the tracks around 11 a.m. when they “came into contact with the train” that was traveling from Boston to Brunswick, Maine. WGM reports.
“Amtrak is working with local law enforcement to investigate the incident,” the spokesman said.
The identities of the two deceased were not immediately released.
Passengers said they waited on the stopped train for nearly two hours, WGME reported, and were eventually taken to Portland by bus.
