Ameren Missouri is replacing utility poles along Big Bend in Clayton

CLAYTON, Mo. — Dozens of workers from Ameren, Missouri spent Wednesday replacing utility poles along a section of Big Bend Boulevard where an uprooted tree destroyed power lines.

A company spokesman said the decision was made to replace other aging poles nearby while the power lines needed to be moved.

“You’ll have to replace it anyway, might as well do it while you’re out here,” said Darryl Woodson, a worker nearby.

The process is part of Smart Energy Plan by Ameren Missouri. A company spokesman said replacing the poles will result in greater reliability for customers.

Emergency services were still on site as of Wednesday evening. The work is expected to continue into the early hours of Thursday morning.
