As the defamation trial between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard nears its conclusion, Heard took a stand. In her testimony on Thursday, she recounted the daily death threats and harassment she has received on behalf of Depp since the high-profile trial began.
“…The harassment and the humiliation, the campaign against me, echoing every single day on social media and now on cameras in this room,” she says, according to a clip posted to Twitter. “Every day I have to relive the trauma. My hands are shaking. I wake up screaming. I have to live with the trauma and damage that was done to me.”
She shared how her friends, intimate partners, medical professionals and film crew “have to live with a set of unspoken rules about not scaring me” due to the “damage I walk with every day with what I’ve lived through, with what I survived. Heard has previously testified that Depp physically and sexually assaulted her throughout their six-year relationship. In 2016, she filed for divorce from Depp and a domestic violence restraining order.
She went on to say that she is “not sitting in this courtroom giggling. I’m not sitting in this courtroom laughing, smiling and making snide jokes. I’m not that’s terrible. This is painful. This is humiliating for everyone. And maybe it’s easy to forget that I’m human.”
She added: “Even though Johnny promised I deserved this and promised to do this, I didn’t deserve this. I want to continue.”
Heard also hinted that Depp “threatened” her. “Johnny threatened –promised me – that if I ever left him, he would make me think of him every day that I lived.
Some of the alleged daily harassment she faces includes people wanting to “kill me” and “put my baby in the microwave.”
Since Depp first called her allegations a hoax in 2018, Heard said she’s “received hundreds of death threats on a regular, if not daily, basis. Thousands since this process began.”
The closing arguments in the Depp v. Heard take place on Friday morning.
