The cute forest scene features the cunning animal appearing to be climbing a tree while three eagle-eyed birds look on.

But camouflaged in the green, 12 other pairs of eyes secretly stare at you.

Don’t worry if you’re having trouble spotting any — the brainteaser has been baffling illusion lovers since US printers Currier and Ives produced it in 1872.

Now, almost 150 years later, The Puzzled Fox has reared its amazing head again to challenge a new audience.

It is extremely difficult for even the most keen illusion enthusiast to recognize all 16 faces.

In fact, however, the lonely fox is surrounded by other animal friends – including a horse, a lamb and a now-extinct passenger pigeon.

A sheep can also be seen at the base of the tree, while a wild boar lurks in the undergrowth.

A trio of human faces are also obscured by the tree trunk on the left, while two more adorn the tree on the right.

And there are a few more faces veiled by the forest floor to decipher.

The startling optical illusion had many viewers rubbing their eyes in fear after struggling to make out the hidden heads.
