Alnwick town hero washes gum and dog poop off sidewalk | British News

A man has become a town hero for banning dog poop and chewing gum with his pressure washer.
Andrew Carr decided to make a difference after finishing a shift cleaning shop windows and gutters in Alnwick, Northumberland.
Now the 32-year-old blasts dirty sidewalks with his jet every Sunday, much to the delight of locals.
His efforts were even remotely praised after Andrew discovered he’d become an unlikely TikTok star.
“I was cleaning windows and gutters, just looking down and I was really disappointed with the state of the sidewalks,” he said.
“I looked further up the main street and saw that every paving slab was covered in chewing gum and there was dog poop.” It was a sad sight.
“Right away, I set myself the goal of cleaning up the city center.
“I figured everyone would complain about dog poop and chewing gum, but no one would do anything about it.”
“I contacted the city council and said I wanted to clean up the pathways and they loved it.”
“I started on a Sunday and just started pressure washing each sidewalk slab. After I finished I was really happy with the results. “The sidewalks looked like new.”
While the city center looks sparkling clean, the window cleaner wants to focus his efforts on the outskirts.
Andrew added: “I’ve contacted Arriva and they’ve given me permission to clean up the bus station, so I’ll deal with that next.”
Residents praised Andrew, including 60-year-old Angela Davies.
She said: “I’ve lived here all my life and didn’t realize the pavers had patterns before they were washed.”
“It might seem like a small thing to be happy about, but the clean sidewalks have transformed the place.”
Councilor Gordon Castle said: “Andrew came to me and offered this service to the City and having approved it through City and County Council we are pleased to accept his generous offer.”
“The work of removing chewing gum is very time consuming, but the results are a revelation.”
“On behalf of the city, I thank him for his community service.”
