New Triumph Tiger 1200 may come to India next year

Triumph Motorcycles completed the launch of the new generation Tiger 1200 earlier this month, and the brand’s new flagship adventure touring bike looks very interesting. The new product is completely overhauled from its predecessor and is now lighter, more powerful and with more features than before. Since the large adventure motorcycle segment has some pretty viable offerings, the new Tiger 1200 definitely needs to be a step up from its predecessor. So what exactly makes it better than before? Here’s everything you need to know about the 2022 Triumph Tiger 1200.

Tiger 1200’s new three-pot engine produces 147 hp at 9,000 rpm and 130 Nm of peak torque at 7,000 rpm.

1. New engine

The new one Triumph Tiger 1200 powered by a 1,160 cc, inline three-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine. The engine features a T-plane tri-plane crank with uneven firing order that promises enhanced low-end handling and response. It has a lightweight low maintenance bearing. The engine has also been optimized for mid-range and higher-end power delivery, along with improved acceleration. Triumph also says the engine offers a more distinctive and distinctive exhaust note. The three-pot engine produces 147 hp at 9,000 rpm and 130 Nm of peak torque at 7,000 rpm. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via an axle drive system with a 6-speed gearbox in place.

2. New chassis, less weight

The 2022 Tiger 1200 has a new lightweight frame with a bolted aluminum subframe. It also has a million hooks and a three-link swing arm. The new chassis aims to reduce the weight of the motorcycle with the frame reduced by about 5.4 kg compared to the old version.

Win also worked to reduce the bike’s overall weight by 25 kg compared to its predecessor by using lighter components. The car is also fitted with a side swingarm and aluminum fuel tank as part of the effort to save weight. When compared to axle-drive competitors, Triumph says the car is about 17 kg lighter.

Suspension comes from Showa with semi-active unit on off-road versions for better control. Braking includes dual 320 mm discs with class-leading Brembo Stylema brake calipers at the front and a single 282 mm rotor at the rear.

3. New Design

The Triumph Tiger 1200 looks sharper, sleeker and more chiseled than before. The new headlights look sharp and come with integrated LED DRLs, while the saddle is separate and the exhaust is set high. Tall windshields are functional on motorcycles. The overall look is more upright and commanding than before, while clean lines create a more modern look.

The styling also varies depending on the variant you choose. For example, the Tiger 1200 GT family is designed in a more road-oriented style, while the Rally family has a more off-road look and stance. The Tiger 1200 Rally is also equipped with 21-inch pyramidal wheels.

The new generation model has a much slimmer waist and a more compact design with a narrower base. This will help the driver put their feet on the floor easily and also convenient to move when riding.

4. Electronic updates

This tech pack abounds on the new Triumph Tiger 1200. Most notably, the exclusive GT Explorer and Rally Explorer varnishes feature the all-new Triumph blind-spot radar system, developed in collaboration with Continental. The system is similar to that of the Ducati Multistrada V4. It lets drivers know when another vehicle is in their blind spot, while Lane Departure Assist provides a prominent warning if the driver changes lanes and another vehicle is approaching.

The electronics package is provided by an inertial measurement unit (IMU), with cornering traction control, cornering ABS, six drive modes and an electronic suspension. The seven-inch TFT color display offers control over all settings and comes with Bluetooth connectivity with turn-by-turn navigation and GoPro control.

The new Tiger 1200 range includes all-LED lighting, adaptive cornering lights, keyless entry, heated grips and seats, tire pressure monitoring and hill assist. There’s also Triumph Shift Assist and heated grips.

5. New variants and expected price in India

The 2022 Triumph Tiger 1200 will come in two main variants – Rally and GT. The Tiger 1200 GT rides on a more road-oriented setup with 19-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels and rides in Metzeler Tourance tyres. Rally variants have longer travel suspension and 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels with cross-spoke design. The off-road versions come with Metzeler Karoo street tires with Michelin Anakee rubber as an option.

The Tiger 1200 GT series includes three variants – GT, GT Pro and GT Explorer. Similarly, Rally variants include – Rally Pro and Rally Explorer. Explorer variants of both models get a 30-liter fuel tank instead of the 20-liter unit on other models.
