Alderman meeting proposes new eviction laws and NFL settlement

ST. LOUIS – Today is the last meeting of the St. Louis City Council before the April election, and they plan to make a final decision on providing additional funding for the convention center expansion.
The NFL deal with the Rams is valued at $30 million. However, renovation plans have been scaled back due to increased costs due to supply chain issues and inflation.
In addition to expanding the convention center, city councils could also pass new eviction laws to protect tenants. The proposed regulation would give tenants facing eviction the right to legal counsel and a way to monitor the situation.
This is especially important during the current pandemic, as evictions have increased significantly and many unemployed residents are unable to keep up with rent payments.
