Alberta Premier Jason Kenney’s leadership review has been postponed to postal voting

Premier of Alberta Jason Kenneys Leadership review is conducted by absentee ballot, a United Conservative Party (UCP) spokesman confirmed Wednesday.

In an email to party members, UCP President Cynthia Moore said party executives wanted to ensure that every individual party member has an opportunity to vote when reviewing leadership. The party will open voting to anyone with current membership as of March 19.

The board also decided to move the EGM online instead of in Red Deer, Alta. on April 9th. According to the email, more than 15,000 people have registered to participate.

The party will eliminate member registration fees, but details on how to get a refund are unclear. Members also have the option to convert registration fees into a donation by requesting a tax receipt.

A national auditing firm will be hired to oversee the postal vote and more details about the vote will be released in the coming days.

“This extraordinary interest in the democratic process shows the strength of our party. Thank you for being a part of it,” Moore said.
