AFL Coach Updates: Bombers’ Ben Rutten mishandled, Adam Ramanauskas, Alastair Clarkson decision expected soon

Ben Rutten’s manager has announced the club’s treatment of the Bombers manager, while Essendon await Alastair Clarkson’s decision, which is expected by the end of the weekend.

Reigning Essendon manager Ben Rutten will lead the Bombers for the final time against Richmond on Saturday night.

The architect behind Essendon’s late game for Clarkson, new Bombers president David Barham is set to meet with the players on Friday morning before facing the media.

Rutten’s manager Adam Ramanauskas said the whole episode was poorly handled.

“I think it was really disappointing. You have to look at the human side… the way he was treated is fundamentally not right,” Ramanauskas said on RSN radio.

“…It’s fair to say that Monday and half of Tuesday were pretty difficult days because nobody told him what was going on. He called a lot of people and didn’t get a lot of answers back.”

Rutten is expected to speak at a press conference today.

Upon entering today, North Melbourne were still positive about their chances of landing the four-time Premiership manager.

While Clarkson admitted yesterday he had to make a decision, and soon.

“It’s quite embarrassing, to be fair, to be the central figure in all of this,” Clarkson told Channel 10 on Thursday night.

“You know I have tremendous respect for the three guys that are involved in their clubs, you know Spike McVeigh, Truck Rutten and Patch Adams are all great people and they try to do the right thing in their clubs.

“With the situation around Truck in particular, you know he has one year left on his contract and it is quite embarrassing to be the center of attention in a situation that is so difficult for both him and his club.

“I would prefer to be able to leave the back and I know full well that this circus will end as soon as I can make a decision one way or the other.

“The sooner I can do that, the better.”
